Best of Summer Beauty 2020

Summer is finally here and so is Summer Beauty! One thing you must know about me is that I hate being cold. I don’t fare well in the brutal winter months here in Ohio. I love waking up to the sunshine poking through my window shades and hearing the birds chirping outside. Summer brings vacations, barbecues, camp fires, more time spent outside, and so much more.

It also means a change in your wardrobe and beauty routine. This requires lighter weight clothing and makeup that can beat the heat. In this blog I will discuss all of my favorite beauty tips and products. These products will stay put and flawless through the heat waves.

I have discussed before how I battle oily skin, especially prior to Accutane treatment (read more about how to battle oily skin here). Adding the heat to the mix brings the unwanted shine.

In the summer I love light weight products that stay matte all day. I sway away from my typical smokey eye.Smokey eyes are my go-to in the winters. But in the Summer, I shoot for a more understated natural look for my eyes. I go for a glossy light pink look that is so natural yet stunning, and is also light weight because, who likes a sticky lip gloss?!

Last but not least, my favorite part of my summer makeup routine is bronzer and highlighter. I love to give my face a sunkissed look by adding a matte bronzer to my cheekbones . I also add highlighter to my cheekbones, for the ultimate summer glow.

Beauty Advice

Here is the biggest advice that I was ever given to ensure that my makeup stayed put. The advice is that it begins with what you put on before your makeup. Moisturizer and primer are essential to getting a flawless 24 hour stay makeup look. Find a moisturizer that works for your skin type, I will link my favorite for oily skin below.

After your skin is moisturized then it is time to put on a primer. This allows your skin to be prepared for the foundation and other products. I found that a heavy, matte primer worked best for my skin. This helped it soak up the oil and to grab the foundation allowing it to stay put (linked below).

In this post I share with you what is in my beauty bag for the summer. I have added links to help you get your hands on the products. Over the years I have tried and have finally found my staple pieces. These products lessen the touch ups and ensure an all day look.

Summer Beauty Moisturizer

The most important steps to get your makeup to last all day is to start with a good moisturizer. With my oily skin I look for products that are oil-free and lightweight. The Neutrogena Oil-Free Facial Lotion checks off all of my boxes and as a bonus has SPF. Find a moisturizer that works for your skin-type.

Primer is one step in my makeup routine that I skipped over for many years. When I was in Sephora and heard a girl talk about how a primer had changed her life. I got sucked in as I typically do while in the store and purchased the product.

I have tried numerous different primers over the years until two years ago I came across Too-Faced Cooling Perfecting Primer. This product is sticky and grabs on to the foundation that I place on top of it. As an added bonus it smells like peaches.

Summer Beauty Foundation

Whether it is Winter or Summer the Esteé Lauder Double Wear Foundation. This foundation is a holy grail and one that has over 10,000 reviews on Sephora’s website. It’s long-lasting and medium to full coverage look is what got me hooked.

It is one of the most expensive products in my makeup bag. I HIGHLY recommend it and promise it is worth the price tag. I wear shade Tawny and feel that this shade matches both my Winter and Summer tones.

When I look for a bronzer, I need one that is user friendly as well as one that is matte. I was intimidated by contouring for many years until one day I watched a few (possibly too many) Youtube tutorials which helped me learn the ins and outs.

Rimmel London has my favorite bronzer, especially in the Summer for sun-kissed skin. It gives your skin a golden glow without having any sparkles in the formula. The shade Sun Bronze looks amazing paired with the highlight that I am about to obsess over.

Truth be told I love to be “glowing” in the Summer. I love putting highlight all over my cheekbones and areas where the sun would hit. This adds to the ultimate sun-kissed Summer beauty look. I have tried my fair share of highlights over the past few years. From high-end to drugstore products, I have tried plenty.

My favorite that I find myself using on most days is a drugstore find from one of my favorite brands, Milani Beauty. This highlighter gives the perfect amount of glow without being over the top. It has a natural look and is sure to have you glowing.

Although I am a huge fan of matte lipsticks, in the summer my go-to is a pink glossy lip. I love the look of a soft pink lipstick paired with a clear gloss. The NYX Lip Cream in the shade Cyprus is my favorite for a budget friendly price tag and its creamy texture.

I add Too-Faced Lip Injections lip gloss on top. This products is one of my favorites for a few reasons. One, it gives your lips a tingling sensation which in turn gives them a plumped appearance. Two, it lasts forever. I bought the gloss two years ago and am still using the same tube.
